Psychoeducational assessments

A psychoeducational assessment is often recommended by school personnel when a child is struggling to meet the curriculum expectations, and the school has already attempted numerous strategies to support the student. Other times the family doctor may recommend an assessment when parents have discussed their concerns regarding their child’s learning. Alternatively, parents may wish to gain a deeper understanding of their child’s learning strengths and weaknesses to assist them the best they can. A typical psychoeducational assessment consists of a cognitive component, standardized academic tests, and tools that look at numerous psychological domains. Additionally, the assessment will explore the child’s behaviour, attention, and social-emotional functioning. Appropriate collateral information will be gathered, i.e., report cards, developmental history.

intellectual Assessments

Often a student who has presented with significant developmental concerns may require an assessment documenting their cognitive and adaptive functioning to access community supports (i.e., Developmental Services Ontario (DSO), Ontario Disability and Support Program (ODSP)) as they transition from secondary school to adulthood.

gifted assessments

At times parents may request an assessment of their child’s cognitive functioning to determine eligibility for gifted programming within their school board.

adhd

Are you concerned about your child’s ability to sustain their attention and/or resist impulses? We can help you to determine if your child’s behaviour regulation skills are in line with age-expectations, or indicative of an ADHD. If so, we will help you (and your child) to better understand the impact an ADHD may have academically, socially and as your child ages.

Autism spectrum disorder

We have begun offering assessments addressing the issue of autism. As these assessments are often more complex there is an additional charge.
